Hi new friend, I’m Janhavi (Jan)!

A designer, storyteller, tinkerer, and explorer of people and ideas.

Art and storytelling have always been the languages I used to navigate the world. As a kid, I bruised myself chasing adventures outside and stitched those stories together indoors with colors, crafts, and scraps of memory. Design became my anchor in a life full of movement—a way to turn every fleeting moment into something tangible.

High school opened another dimension of storytelling for me: the spoken word. Through Speech and Debate, Model UN, and Mock Trial, I discovered that ideas could shape worlds just as much as images could. I learned to think on my feet, to step into different perspectives, and to tell stories that built bridges between people.

Research became second nature—figuring out what made audiences listen, empathize, act. That same spirit of curiosity, questioning, and human connection naturally pulled me toward UX research and design: blending emotional storytelling with structured exploration.

On film sets, where I worked in production design, I learned how even the smallest visual choices—props, colors, lighting—can shape the mood of an entire scene. It taught me that every design choice, whether physical or digital, should feel intentional and lived-in.
Good design, like good storytelling, is invisible: it shapes how you feel without you ever needing to notice why.

Today, my life feels like a growing collection of scraps—ticket stubs, sketches, overheard conversations, ideas jotted on napkins. My art and design mirror that mixed media sensibility: layered, human, and always evolving. I carry this approach into every project—whether redesigning healthcare apps at UCSD’s Diabetes Design Initiative, building accessible platforms at the International Bipolar Foundation, or leading community design efforts through student organizations like UCSD's TREND Fashion Magazine.

I’m currently studying Cognitive Science specializing in Design and Human Computer Interaction at UC San Diego, where my passion for psychology, technology, and storytelling all collide.
Beyond work, you’ll find me climbing new trails, collecting souvenirs, playing with typography, or diving into a new research project just because a question caught my curiosity.

If you ever want to talk about design, storytelling, people-watching, or the art of making meaning from chaos—let’s connect!
